Pruning a fruit tree and wanted to point out this common problem that people miss when pruning their trees. Here is a photo of a crisscrossing branch that should have been removed a couple years ago. Notice the scab on the branch below it? When branches rub or set on each other it creates scabs from the movement of the branches. These scabs invite pests to your tree which bring infestation and diseases. Crisscrossing branches can also diminish light t the center of the tree which can effect fruit production. And can weaken branch joints.
